Makinti Napanangka
Makinti Napanangka was a Pintupi speaking Aboriginal artist from Australia's Western Desert region of Karrkurritinytja. Her first contact with white people was seeing them riding camels when she was living at Lupul. In the early 1940's, Makinti was one of a large group of people who walked into Haasts Bluff, with her husband Nyukuti Tjupurrula, and their son Ginger Tjakamarra.
For many years Makinti Napanangka was the most senior woman painting with the renowned Papunya Tula Artists. As with other senior Pintupi women she worked on the collaborative Haasts Bluff/ Kintore women’s painting project. Learn more about Makinti in her bio.
